Personality:
Darres is known for his kindness and nondiscrimination. Ishtar constantly mentions what a good person he is to others even after he only met them just once. When Ishtar adopted the kyawl, Darres went to study up on their habits to help Ishtar take care of him knowing that she had no knowledge of their habits. During the attempt that someone poisoned her, causing her to be bed ridden even after treatment, Darres stayed by her bedside. His good heart makes it easy to take advantage of him, as Ishtar admits that she does it all the time. She worries that the wrong people could take advantage of his good nature. It is said about him, that he is also very understanding and that compassion is one of his predominant traits. Ashley described Darres as accepting and accepts people for who they are regardless of their backgrounds. People such Yuujel who deceived him as "Yuujin" for that brief period of time. Darres has a lot of tolerance, as the people around him either do what they wants or ignore his pleads. He will often back out of the challenges he presents, especially when he realizes he's not going to win the argument which gives the impression that he can be a pushover.

Darres lacks self preservation, due to his upbringing, he never really had one. As an orphan he often wondered what he was fighting for to stay alive. After his time with Selen, the general who adopted him, he built some self worth though not a whole lot. He knew that she wanted him to guard Princess Ishtar, which he could accept because he felt he owed it to Selen for even taking him in in the first place. As a her majesty's royal guard, Darres always figured that he would give his life to protect royalty. This also ties in with his notable inability to get close to others on an intimate level. Darres is never shown to make any affectionate physical contact with another. He tends to keep to himself, and when he does make contact with others it's usually very light. Like resting his hand on Ishtar while she clings to him. While he doesn't make an effort to physically show his affection, he doesn't push it away either. Often allowing Ishtar and Yujinn to do as they please. Darres lacks self worth, therefore he has the mindset that people don't or won't care about him. He mentioned himself that he wasn't use to people caring about him. This wall of his is considerably thick given the fact that Selen tried her best to be a good mom and give him a healthy upbringing while he was with her. Selen is one of the few people he adores the most. Along with Ishtar.

Darres has a soft spot for animals, and is even good with children. When the wild horse nearly killed Ishtar, they wanted to put it down for endangering the life of royalty. Darres reasoned that if he could train the horse for anyone to ride, they wouldn't have a reason to put it down and ultimately it would be the riders fault for not properly handling the horse. Yujinn, a close friend of Darres' (though one-sided to Yujinn at the time) described animals to being like family or something. When Darres was on his way to Razenia to look for Ishtar, he was approached by children. Even though his priorities were set, he still made time to socialize with these children and even humored them a little.

He doesn't get over things as easily as Ishtar does. While she will quickly forgive them, Darres tends to hold a little more of a grudge. Namely when they found out that Yujinn was actually the prince of Zi Alda and his name was actually Yuujel. Darres was upset that he was lied to in that matter. He takes trifles more offensively. That said, he also feels just as strongly about lying and deceiving others. When Yuujel cornered him into making the public think they were brothers was something he was against entirely. He leads on honest life, but when he found out that everyone involved with the lying for their political gain would be tried for treason and likely killed, he backed out of wanting to speak the truth because he didn't want everyone involved to be hung.

Darres is known for his protective nature and will save anyone in danger. During the tournament in La Naan, Vord had stepped in with his older brothers fight, tearing him apart more or less. The outbreak of wind the brother caused was dangerous enough to harm others, causing Darres to get involved. Jumping into trouble is like clockwork for him and one of the traits he picked up from his father despite not knowing him. He is also highly protective of Ishtar and takes her feelings into account with the decisions he makes. Darres vowed that he would protect anyone whose life was in danger by being around Ishtar. He tries, to the best of his ability to make sure she would never have to to cry again.
